Bohemia, NY P.W. Grosser Consulting, Inc. (PWGC) held its 2017 Environmental & Engineering Scholarship Luncheon at its corporate headquarters. Scholarship winners were selected from a large pool of applicants that submitted essays on one of the following topics:

• Carbon Footprint

• Clean Energy Revolution

• Organic Pollution on Long Island

• Right to Clean Water

In addition, applicants may have included their area of study and/or their career plans.

Winners included Jordan Matuszewski of Sachem East High School, Kiera Alventosa of Ward Melville High School, and Taylor Key of Smithtown East High School. They were awarded scholarships in the amounts of $750, $500 and $500, respectively.

“I continue to be impressed with the knowledge and initiative that our scholarship winners demonstrate on their applications.  As always, our winners demonstrate their commitment to bettering the world in their pursuit of their higher education. I wish them the best of luck and I hope to see their faces again as interns for PWGC,” said PWGC senior vice president Jim Rhodes, who reviewed all of the applications submitted to PWGC.

PWGC has provided the Environmental & Engineering Scholarship for 20 years. Since then, it has awarded more than $30,000 to students with an interest in pursuing engineering and environmental science as a career. 

All of the awardees will pursue higher education opportunities this fall. Matuszewski will attend the University of San Diego to study environmental science. Alventosa will attend Ahmerst College to study environmental science. Key will attend University of Delaware to study engineering.

PWGC also provides an internship program every summer. The internship program allows students to incorporate their knowledge from the classroom into the real world. The hands-on experience is valuable to each student as they work towards their engineering and environmental degrees. “There is a need for real world experience in addition to classroom lectures to achieve the best educational experience for engineering and environmental students,” said PWGC president Paul Grosser, Ph.D., P.E., P.G.
