Niagara Power Transformer Corp. will begin construction on a new facility. The Erie County Industrial Development Agency's directors approved a $7.5 million inducement package that was central toward Niagara Power's decision to build the 39,000 s/f facility in the North America Center. The facility will serve as an adjunct to Niagara Power Transformer's main plant in Cheektowaga.
Niagara Power Transformer was also considering North Carolina as a possible site for the plant. An incentive package including the ECIDA deal as well as ones being presented by Empire State Development Corp. helped cement the deal. The IDA package will help the company save $2.18 million in property taxes during a 15-year abatement period, plus another $252,000 in sales tax savings and $75,000 in mortgage recording taxes.
Niagara Power Transformer is expected to create 18 new jobs at the new facility, giving it 92 between the two local operations.
Construction on the building will start this summer.
