New York, NY Shawmut Design and Construction will complete thirteen stores at the 365,000 s/f Westfield World Trade Center Mall including Tumi and Pandora. The total number of projects for Shawmut is the most of any contractor involved in the project.

As one of the leading retail construction management firms, Shawmut worked to provide insight and efficiencies including methods for concrete pours, which created the standard for all contractors in the World Trade Center. To guarantee the team delivered best-in-class client service for all thirteen clients, Shawmut appointed a dedicated logistics coordinator in addition to the project team, to serve as the main point of contact onsite. Project highlights include:

• To bring the Tumi brand aesthetics to life, the team completed a 1,263 s/f fit-out of the space, which included installing custom LumiSheet LED light panels, proprietary wall covering, and a custom designed lighting system serving as a focal point at the front of the store.

• In a short 14-week timeframe, Shawmut also completed the 1,000 s/f Pandora fit-out to include marble tile in the entrance, Corian countertops, free standing cases, and shelving, and lighting built in to millwork.

“When we began meeting with Westfield over two years ago, we realized the potential challenges and coordination that would be needed to ensure a successful completion,” said Greg Skalaski, vice president of retail at Shawmut. “The team proactively devised plans that would save time and money by increasing efficiencies and reducing redundancies. I was extremely proud of our team for being a driving force behind such complex projects.”

Shawmut collaborated with owners, project teams, Westfield, and the Port Authority to help open the mall nearly 15 years after September 11th, 2001. Other Shawmut-built World Trade Center projects include Stuart Weitzman, Designer Eyes, Charles Tyrwhitt, Hugo Boss, Vince Camuto, Links of London, Aesop, Christian Dior, Folli Follie, Epicerie Boulud, and others still underway.
