How did you get your start in real estate?
Placed in Property Management office by employment agency in 1990.
What real estate associations or organizations are you a member of?
BOMA, IREM, CREW
What recent honor, achievement or recognition has meant the most to you and why?
I have received many different kinds of recognition over the last few years. As much as those other awards meant to me, I have found that the two most meaningful have been for my community service efforts. Most recently, the Encore Community Services Heart to Heart award.
Encore is an organization that feeds and houses the low income/homeless elderly people. They feed over 1,000 individuals on a daily basis - over 200 at their facility and the balance through meal deliveries. Over the last 2 years, I have coordinated a rotating group of 40+ Paramount Group employees to serve lunch every Thursday.
I received the REBNY John M. Griffin Community Service Award in 2014. It was an honor to receive this award. This recognized all the charitable work that I am involved with at work and at home.
What have been some of the benefits of being a mentor or having a mentor?
I love being a mentor to the young people in our office. It is great to see them grow in the field. They ask such good questions and have such good energy. I feel that the interaction with the mentees help me to be a better property manager.
I have always been a very do it yourself person. Being a mentor has allowed me to teach others and learn to share the responsibilities.
Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career and why?
My husband has been the strongest influence on my career. It can be very demanding at times and he has supported me throughout. He took on a lot more duties at home for our children, and care for my parents during their last few years. I could not be what I am today without his support. He pushed me to believe in myself and that I could do anything I set my mind to. When I started out in property management, I didn’t even know that this field existed. The longer I stayed in the field, the more we both realized what a good fit it was for me. He has been with me every step of the way.
