What emerging trends will drive investment and development in 2016? Mitigating rapidly growing construction costs will be the most important trend in both commercial and public development markets throughout the greater New York area. Developers and architects will look for ways to reduce costs without undermining quality or amenities. The most effective method we apply on our projects, both multi-family and educational, is the careful selection of building systems in the pre-design phase. Recommended systems often include panelized rain screen–type exterior cladding and steel stud structural systems for both sheer and bearing walls that both significantly accelerate construction schedule and reduce labor costs. These methods allow our clients to reduce construction costs by between 8 to 15% in comparison to traditional building technologies.
