Manhattan, NY RKF, one of the country’s leading independent real estate firms specializing in retail leasing, investment sales and consulting services, secured a 2,277 s/f lease for Indian restaurant Surya at 154 Bleecker St. in the borough’s Greenwich Village. RKF vice chairman Ariel Schuster, vice president Greg Covey and associate Joseph Ponti represented the tenant, Surya, and the landlord, Broad Street Development, who owns the retail space. Located at the base of the property known as 184 Thompson between Thompson St. and LaGuardia Place, Surya will occupy 1,605 s/f on the ground floor and 672 s/f in the lower level. Nearby tenants include GMT Tavern, Le Poisson Rouge, The Bitter End and The Red Lion. The restaurant is scheduled to open in December. “We’re pleased to have found Surya a new home so close to their former location at 302 Bleecker St. where they first made their mark and built a fan base,” said Schuster. “The proximity to NYU and Washington Square Park really made this an ideal location for the restaurant’s reopening, and we’re certain they will thrive in this new location.” Surya first opened at 302 Bleecker St. in the West Village in 1998, and after several years of operation, closed that location in late 2012. Chef-owner Lala Sharma and his family-run business currently have two other restaurants on the Upper West Side: Savoury Indian Eatery (489 Columbus Avenue) and Wine and Swagat Indian Restaurant (411 Amsterdam Avenue). Surya will be Sharma’s third restaurant in Manhattan.
