Rochester, NY The Building Owners and Managers Association of Greater Rochester honored Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women’s Dismas Center for the Performing Arts with the 2016 BOMA Rochester Recognition Award in its renovation category. The BOMA Awards recognize companies with a strong commitment to ethical business practices in everyday operations and in response to crises and challenges.
Having served as architect of record for Mercy, SWBR Architects focused on a unique design that would preserve the beauty of the historical building while meeting current safety codes. The project consisted of new sound and lighting systems, a new control booth, new and restored finishes, improved acoustics and more. The renovated main lobby features new lighting, display cases and acoustic doors, all complementing the original design. An art gallery was created on the second floor, along with a new multipurpose educational environment theater suitable for smaller performances, dance lessons, instruction, rehearsal, lectures and special events.
