Permanent and temporary artwork is prominently displayed inside and outside the building, welcoming tenants and visitors and creating a cultural experience within the healthcare environment. Permanent featured works by artist Terri Katz Kasimov include a sprawling, painted canvas and large scale narrative collage that complement the main lobby area of the building. Temporary installations in the lobby include work from local artists Catherine Linder Spencer and Ginny O’Brien. Ciminelli will also introduce the Connect Gallery, a collaborative effort with University at Buffalo Art Galleries Art Education Program and the Program’s community partners. The inaugural exhibition features artwork by Aspire of WNY, Inc. iXpress Program artists.
In addition, Ciminelli collaborated with Rigidized Metals, University at Buffalo professors Christopher Romano and Nicholas Bruscia, and students from UB’s School of Architecture & Planning to design functional yet beautiful wind screens for the exterior of the building. They are crafted with stainless steel perforated metal panels and stainless steel plates, and are illuminated at night.
The 7-story Conventus building totals 350,000 s/f of clinical, office, research, and retail space. It is located at the Northern Gateway to the Medical Campus, and will create a physical connection with the John R. Oshei Children’s Hospital and UB’s Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. The project reached substantial completion in June 2015.
“In all healthcare properties, we seek to create an inviting environment for our tenants and their patients. We fully support and applaud Ciminelli’s extensive planning and efforts to achieve this goal at Conventus by partnering with the local art community,” said Malika Basheer, vice president, asset management of Seavest.
