Commack, NY The Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center has named Mark Shapiro to the organization’s board of directors.
Shapiro, a veteran business professional with 25 years of experience in the fields of logistics, sales/marketing, business operations and customer service, joined The Advance Group in 2013 as director of business development where he worked with The Advance Group’s professional sales team to develop business, create synergies with partners, and enhanced the company’s referral relationships and supported the company’s marketing efforts at trade shows and industry events. He was recently promoted to vice president – account executive of The Advance Group.
“I am honored to have been approached by the Suffolk Y JCC and subsequently accepted to their board of directors. This opportunity has been presented to me at a fitting time in my life. I was in search of something to help me further grow as a person. This is a great organization which I feel can fulfill my desire to give back to my community. My goal is to help the JCC reach the potential my fellow board members and I believe it is capable of. In addition—my kids are members and think it’s cool their dad is on the board,” said Shapiro.
“Mark is a successful member of the Long Island business community and will be a valuable asset as a board member to the Suffolk YJCC,” said Rob Greenberger, Executive Director, Suffolk Y JCC. “His experience and acumen makes him a perfect fit for our organization. We look forward to him bringing his strengths and experience to the SYJCC and helping us continue our mission as we expand our reach and serve the needs of the community in the years to come.”
Shapiro founded his own special delivery service in 1990-the same year he graduated from Ithaca College with a BS in Economics. In 1995, he partnered with his father, Michael Shapiro, to combine his special delivery service with Michael’s trucking and warehousing business into a multi-faceted company offering an array of services. In 2007, Shapiro founded Allstar Secure Shred—a document shredding company which also offered scanning to archive services, hard drive destruction, product destruction, and records storage.
He was a recipient of the 2012 Member of the Year award for the Long Island Elite (LIE). He is active in his community coaching youth sports, and donating time for Long Island based charities. Shapiro also serves as a mentor in the Long Island Elite—a 501(c)3 with a focus on fostering growth and development of Long Island’s professionals under 40, as well as supporting Long Island based charities. He is also a member of BIN—Business Information Network.
Shapiro is a resident of Commack and has two children ages 15 and 13.
