Manhattan, NY Maison Kayser will bring its world-renowned artisanal breads and baked goods to Union Square, signing a 15-year lease at the historic 841 Broadway for its eighth location in the borough, according to The Feil Organization, the building’s owner and manager. Terms were not disclosed.
The bakery will occupy 3,003 s/f on the ground and mezzanine floors of the 108,000 s/f, eight-level building, completing its retail portion, according to Nicholas Forelli, director of leasing for Feil. The space will be turned over to the tenant by mid-December.
“The activity in and around Union Square is buzzing, and the demand for this location was extraordinary, allowing us to maximize the income,” said Forelli. “While we were marketing this location, we had an overwhelming response from every food concept you can imagine. With its reputation for quality and unique product for this market, Maison Kayser was the best fit for the building and neighborhood.”
Founded by Eric Kayser in Paris in 1996, Maison Kayser is an authentic artisanal French Boulangerie, with bread and other baked goods mixed and baked on site all day long. Recognized as one of the most talented artisan bakers of his generation, Eric Kayser has built his reputation on his passion for bread, the quality of his products, and his incredible skill to combine authenticity and innovation in the world of French artisanal bakeries. Mr. Keyser also owns 20 locations in Paris and multiple locations spanning the globe.
Built in 1894, the Romanesque building is located at the intersection of 13th Street just one block from Union Square Park. In the past year, Feil completely renovated the building, restoring the terracotta façade, creating a brass-accented lobby, and installing new elevators and windows.
At the base of 841 Broadway is one of the busiest subway stations in New York City, serving the 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q and R trains, making Union Square one of the most easily accessed areas in Manhattan. In recent years, technology and media firms have come to the neighborhood, as has retail. Other retail tenants at 841 Broadway include Max Brenner Chocolatier and Santander Bank. Feil also owns 853 Broadway next door, another recently renovated building that recently completed its retail component with M?A?C Cosmetics and Capital One.
Paul Berkman and Davie Berke of JLL represented Maison Kayser, while Brian Feil, Vice President of Leasing and Mr. Forelli represented The Feil Organization. Michael Greenberg of KLG Luz & Greenberg LLP provided legal counsel for Maison Kayser. Attorney for Feil was Michele Frankel.
