04-01-2015 - Urban Green Council to hold "EnerPHit" event

The Urban Green Council will hold "EnerPHit: The Passive House Standard for Energy Retrofits" on April 1st, from 8 to 9 a.m. The city's building stock represents an investment of natural resources, both in construction and operation. And, as new construction projects strive to achieve the Passive House Standard, many look to how similar energy-saving strategies can apply to our existing buildings. For some, the answer is EnerPHit; the passive house energy retrofit standard launched by Passive House Institute founder, Dr. Wolfgang Feist. Join us to learn how EnerPHit requirements differ from the Passive House standard and how wide application in NYC can help us reach larger emission reduction goals. Speakers will also examine an EnerPHit case study in Brooklyn, discussing the challenges and opportunities. The featured speakers are: Jane Sanders, AIA, CPHD, principal and owner, Jane Sanders Architect; and Jeremy R. M. Shannon, AIA, LEED AP, BPI, CEO and principal architect, Build with Prospect, Inc. and Prospect Architecture. Sanders is an architect and Certified Passive House Designer in Brooklyn. Before starting her own business, she spent 12 years at Jan Hird Pokorny Associates, a firm specializing in Historic Preservation and Adaptive Reuse. She is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design. Shannon is a Certified Passive House Consultant and Tradesperson. He is a founder of the National Passive House Alliance and serves on the Board of Directors of NY Passive House. With Build with Prospect, Inc., he has designed and renovated eight townhouses to the EnerPHit standard. The event will be held at The Center for Architecture, 536 LaGuardia Place, Tafel Hall.
