First job outside of real estate: Hardware store and plant nursery: I loved working in the greenhouse and pruning rose bushes, and I was really good at stocking and reorganizing the hardware aisles.
First job in real estate or allied field: LineWerks: a small residential architecture outfit.
What do you do now and what are you planning for the future? Currently, I facilitate the design collaboration and management of various project building-types, interior and exterior. Continue to build on the firm's legacy to create buildings that work, projects that last, and designs that delight.
How do you unwind from a busy day in real estate? Cooking, gym, or a bike ride.
Favorite book or author: Picking a favorite book is too difficult. A few of my favorites - "Catch 22" (Joseph Heller), "Fraction of the Whole" (Steve Toltz), "The Devil in the White City" (Eric Larson), and "The Architecture of Happiness" (Alain de Botton).
Favorite movie: "Playtime" (Jacques Tati)
Last song you purchased/downloaded? "Hold-On" (The Alabama Shakes)
One word to describe your work environment: Stimulating.
Rules to live by in business: Work hard, play hard: approach work with rigor and tenacity to have holistic and thoughtful practice, but allow for exploration and play to enrich life's experience and understanding.
If you could invite one person to dinner (living or dead) who would it be and where would you go?
Dinner with Leonardo da Vinci at the Smithsonian Institution, assuming we could have dinner in the museum.
What is your dream job? U.S. ambassador for the cultural exchange of architecture and urbanism (if there is such a job, if not, then in my dream there is).
