According to Goldstein, Hill & West Architects (GHWA), Sergio Valerio, AIA, LEED Green Associate, has joined the firm as a senior architect in its zoning department, bringing nearly 15 years of experience to the team.
Before coming to GHWA, Valerio was a senior project manager for zoning and code analysis at IBI Group - Gruzen Samton in New York City. In his new role at GHWA, Valerio will assist the zoning team with analysis, preliminary design, feasibility studies, and large projects. He will also work with city agencies, special permits, and landmarks commission approvals.
Valerio specializes in most aspects of urban housing design, with a particular focus on NYC zoning resolution requirements.
"Sergio's skills are a natural fit for Goldstein, Hill & West, and will complement the firm's already highly regarded zoning and land use group," said David West, a partner at GHWA. "We are leaders in our field and believe that Sergio's strong background in multifamily design, zoning and code will widen the gap between our firm and its competitors. His experience will prove especially beneficial as the architectural industry continues to design alongside a changing set of zoning laws."
Valerio has been involved in conducting the zoning analysis and feasibility studies for a number of residential projects across New York City, including 111 Washington St., a condominium development, 1790-1792 Third Ave., a multifamily, mixed-use building, and 810 Stanley Ave. in Brooklyn. He has also worked with a variety of senior living residences, including the Sephardic Home for the Aged in Brooklyn and the Selfhelp Senior Living Facility in Queens. Additionally, Valerio assisted on zoning matters for several New York City public schools, as well as the Abraham Joshua Heschel School on the Lower East Side.
Valerio holds a bachelor's degree in Architecture from the City College of New York, and a master's degree in construction management from New York University.
