Over the past eight years, Canstruction Long Island's annual design competition has raised over $385,000 to purchase and collectively donate over 290,000 cans of food representing more than 115 tons of food providing more than 190,000 meals for hungry Long Islanders.
"Every year we are astounded at the creativity and ingenuity displayed by the professional and student teams alike to create these amazing structures," said Tracy Lobdell, executive director, Canstruction Long Island. "The discipline and drive to fundraise and collect the tremendous number of cans needed to build their designs is a credit to the determination of these teams to help their fellow Long Islanders fight hunger."
The exhibit, located at RXR Plaza, was open to the public every day from Friday, October 24th through Thursday, November 5th. The cost of admission was a can of food, which visitors used to cast their vote for the People's Choice Award.
