Name: Taila Martin Title: Associate Company Name: Windels Marx Lane & Mittendorf, LLP Years in Commercial Real Estate: 3 years In the last 12 months, which project, transaction, honor or accomplishment are you most proud of and why? In the last 12 months I have been intimately involved in the financing of several affordable housing projects, many of which included supportive services for special needs populations, including homeless, veterans, or senior citizens. These transactions generally require the cooperation at the local, state and national level. Here in NYC, which is one of the most active affordable housing markets in the nation, key players in this industry are invested in and committed to expanding the affordable and supportive housing. I am proud to be a part of a team providing legal services to increase housing and services for these important segments of our society. What social media and/or face to face networking activities do you find most beneficial professionally? Some of the more notable and successful face to face networking events I have been to in the past year were those that were targeted towards young professionals practicing in the real estate industry, and not specifically targeted toward the accrual of clients, for me, individually, i.e. lenders. I recognize the importance of meeting and collaborating with those of us in the "next generation" who strive to be successful in the field of real estate. We each play a significant role in each other's development. What is your favorite quote? A quote that recently resonated with me was, "When a veteran comes home kissing the ground, it is unacceptable that he has to sleep on it." - First Lady Michelle Obama. Having grown up in a military family, although not one that had to face the torments of war, it is truly heartbreaking that there are so many homeless veterans in America that are not receiving the services and support so needed and deserved.
