Green Buildings
Con Edison customers who own or run large buildings can receive lucrative incentives for energy-efficiency and demand management projects that reduce their peak demand for electricity by 50 kilowatts or more.
In addition, third-party developers can enlist projects among groups of customers as long as each of those customers completes a project that reduces peak demand by 10 kilowatts, and the projects combined reduce peak demand by 50 kilowatts.
The initiative is jointly administered by Con Edison and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
These incentives are intended to reduce 125 megawatts of peak electrical use in New York City and Westchester County. One hundred megawatts would come from energy efficiency and demand reduction measures and 25 megawatts from combined heat and power (CHP).
Energy-saving measures that qualify include thermal or battery storage; demand response enablement; chillers, HVAC, building management systems and controls; lighting (LED); fuel switching (non-electric air conditioning); and CHP. The projects must be operational by June 1, 2016, with the exception of CHP projects, which must be operational by May 1, 2016.
These incentives are offered in addition to those Con Edison's green team offers for our other energy efficiency programs. Under this new program, projects must reduce 50 kilowatts between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June to September. Our other programs are based on kilowatt hour savings at any time of the day.
Customers can receive up to 50% of their project's cost. Customers who complete projects for 500 kilowatts or more can get bonus incentives.
