On June 13, Robert Scheiner of H2M architects + engineers was presented with the Regional Leadership Award by Vision Long Island. Scheiner accepted the award at the 2014 Smart Growth Awards at the Crest Hollow Country Club.
The Regional Leadership Award is presented by Vision Long Island to candidates who are "community, government or corporate leaders that, through the course of their career, advance downtowns and infrastructure projects, and are in-sync with Vision's mission."
This award comes less than one month after Scheiner was named Chairman of the Huntington Chamber of Commerce.
"We need to make Long Island more affordable, more exciting and easier to navigate," Scheiner said. "We need to concentrate on developing the infrastructure necessary to support smart growth."
The chief marketing officer and senior vice president of H2M, Scheiner has served on the Huntington Chamber Board for over 15 years. A longtime resident of Commack, he is the former chair of the Leadership Huntington Foundation and is currently a member of its President's Advisory Committee. In addition, he is a board member for Vision Long Island and the Community Development Corporation of Long Island.
He joined H2M in 1986 and was tasked with starting its architectural division, which now employs more than 50 architects. He previously served as the director of community development and planning for the Town of Riverhead and was ultimately appointed deputy supervisor, overseeing the town's building and recreation departments, as well as the water and sewer districts.
