DCG Development Co. and Hilton Worldwide broke ground on the Homewood Suites by Hilton Clifton Park. Located next to the skate park at Clifton Park Center Mall located at 22 Clifton Country Rd., the 81,086 s/f, 96-suite, four-story, all-suite, residential-style hotel is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion in spring of 2015. Bast Hatfield serves as the contractor. The ceremonial groundbreaking was attended by 35 guests, including Don Greene, president, DCG Development Co.; David Congdon, vice president, DCG Development Co.; Donald MacElroy, vice president, DCG Development Co.; Karen Whitman, senior director of franchise development, Hilton Worldwide; Megan Bast, owner, Bast Hatfield; Kit Bast, owner, Bast Hatfield; James Tedisco, New York State Assembly; Peter Bardunias, president, Chamber of Southern Saratoga County; Amy Standaert, Clifton Park Town Board; Anita Daly, Clifton Park County Supervisor; John Scavo, Clifton Park Planning Board; and Steve Meyers, Clifton Park Zoning Board. "Every Homewood Suites hotel is designed to offer home-like comforts and quality bundled services that allow travelers to stay productive when on the road," said Bill Duncan, global head, Homewood Suites by Hilton. "We are thrilled to break ground and partner again with Hilton Worldwide to bring this award-winning, extended-stay brand to Southern Saratoga County," said DCG Development president Don Greene. "The Homewood Suites will provide a new option for those needing the comforts of a home away from home. The hotel nicely complements our revitalization of Clifton Park Center." When completed, the new Homewood Suites by Hilton Clifton Park will provide travelers amenities and services that maximize their travel budget. All Homewood Suites guests enjoy spacious one- and two-bedroom suites. DCG Development vice president Donald MacElroy commented that there is an increased demand for extended-stay options in the area, especially with the proximity to GlobalFoundries and the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering. "The construction of the hotel is a critical component in the overall vision to enhance the attractiveness of Clifton Park Center as a destination," said Rocky Ferraro, executive director of the Capital District Regional Planning Commission. DCG Development is familiar with the Hilton Worldwide brand, having opened a 104-room Hilton Garden Inn at Clifton Park Center in 2011. The Homewood Suites is not expected to compete with the Hilton Garden Inn, as the entities comprise separate demographics. DCG is also currently erecting another extended-stay brand, Embassy Suites by Hilton Congress Plaza in Saratoga Springs, with expected completion in the fourth quarter of 2014.
