The Dairy Queen system, part of Berkshire Hathaway has entered New York City with the scheduled opening of its 54 West 14th St. restaurant this spring. Located between 5th and 6th Aves., this new restaurant will create more than 50 jobs on a continuous basis and will be the first ever two-story DQ Grill & Chill restaurant in the country.
Jeremy Modest of Ripco Real Estate represented Dairy Queen and Adam Langer of Zelnik & Co. represented the landlord in the 15-year lease.
"For nearly 75 years, the Dairy Queen system has been serving fans in more than 6,400 locations throughout 27 countries. Now, we are bringing the world-famous Blizzard Treat, the cone with the signature curl on top, and delicious Orange Julius beverages to our fans in New York City," said John Gainor, president and CEO for International Dairy Queen Corporation (IDQ).
LSQ Foods has signed a multi-unit agreement and will operate the location. The company plans to aggressively expand in the borough with the DQ brand.
The two-story, 2,500 s/f DQ Grill & Chill restaurant will seat 100 customers and will offer a full food and treat menu including $5 Buck Lunch.
In 2013, the Dairy Queen system opened two DQ Grill & Chill locations outside the borough, one in Massapequa and one in the Staten Island Ferry Terminal.
