April 21, 2014 - Brokerage
One of New York Grant Co.'s newest employees, Heidi Shea Springer, is a recipient of City & State Media's Above & Beyond award. This honor is presented to 25 women for excellence in their respective fields, which include labor, public service, business and media.
Springer, who is being honored for her excellence in public service, joined New York Grant Co. in 2013, after 13 years of handling complex transactions for the New York City Industrial Development Agency and the New York City Economic Development Agency (NYCEDC). "We are thrilled that Heidi is receiving recognition for her exemplary work with the NYCEDC," said Ann Kayman, CEO of the New York Grant Co. "And we are immensely excited to have Heidi on our team so that she can continue her work with the private sector to promote business growth."
While at NYCEDC, Springer promoted economic growth across all sectors and throughout the five boroughs. She assisted scores of companies, not-for-profits and developers to access discretionary tax incentives, financing, and as-of-right benefit programs offered by New York City and State. She successfully negotiated agreements with more than 30 companies, netting the city commitments for more than 35,000 jobs, over $3 billion in private investment and three million square feet of commercial development. After 9/11, Heidi implemented the city's Recovery Zone Program, which provided critical access to federal capital allowing key development projects to proceed when liquidity in the financial markets evaporated.
Springer's experience ranges from large multi-nationals establishing headquarters and back-office operations; to not-for profits seeking new offices and program locations; to retail and supermarket development; to assisting family-run industrial companies acquire new facilities or enter into long-term leases.
Since she has joined the New York Grant Co., she has been instrumental in securing millions of dollars in incentives for one of the firm's largest clients, helping to entice them to remain in New York State, as well as to create hundreds of new jobs. She is also managing economic research, analysis and compliance with incentives for our largest clients, in addition to her work in expanding New York Grant Co.'s reach into new territories.
In addition to her work, Springer is highly active in her community. She serves on the board of the Greenpoint YMCA, and was appointed to an advisory panel with the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund.
Springer is a certified planner and earned a master of Urban Planning from Columbia University, as well as bachelors' degrees in Urban Planning and Sociology from Arizona State University.
