Kids Do Care, a not-for-profit program founded by Jeffrey Pikus of Bluestar Properties, Inc., recently hosted members of the U.S. Marines for a presentation at P.S. 9. The schools students, ages 5 - 10, presented cards and letters written to serviceman currently serving overseas. KidsDoCare.org is a partnership between the U.S. military and school systems throughout the country. The goal of the program is to educate children about the courage and sacrifice of the men and women in the United States military, to foster a bipartisan environment for children to engage in positive and thoughtful conversation about current events and conflict resolution, and to enable our nation's youngest citizens to show their support and promote goodwill for soldiers. As pictured above, the program arranged for military personnel to visit the school and talk to the children about what it means to receive cards and letters from the children. The letters were forwarded by Kids Do Care to active marine units currently serving overseas. The program was inspired by Pikus' mother and former elementary school teacher, who encouraged her 3rd grade class to write letters to Vietnam solders back in 1965.
