O'Connor of Apex elected president of Long Island Appraisal Institute chapter; served as website chair, program chair and treasurer

Gerard O'Connor, SRA, of Suffolk County, has been elected president of the Long Island chapter of the Appraisal Institute for the 2014 year. Serving Nassau and Suffolk counties of Long Island, the chapter encourages local real estate appraisers to earn Appraisal Institute professional membership designations and provides appraisal education.
O'Connor is president of Apex Appraisal Service. O'Connor, who earned his SRA in 1997, has been a member of the chapter's executive board since 2010. In addition, he has served the Long Island chapter as website chair, program chair and treasurer. O'Connor is a certified residential New York State appraiser, and has been active as a residential appraiser on Long Island for 20 years. Previously, O'Connor worked as a detective in the NYPD before retiring in 1993. O'Connor is a graduate of Stony Brook University.
Additional officers elected by the chapter for the Year 2014 include: senior vice president Anthony Iaccio, MAI; vice president Kathleen Rairden, MAI; secretary Michael Scalia, MAI; and treasurer Tonia Vailas, MAI.
The Long Island chapter of the Appraisal Institute provides educational courses and seminars, which are designed for those interested in pursuing an appraisal career; for appraisers fulfilling state and designation requirements, and for practitioners moving beyond appraisal disciplines. The chapter also holds seminar dinner meetings which provide a forum for exploring new topics and networking.
