SWBR Architects completed the first phase of construction and renovation of the University of Rochester's (U of R) Center for Experiential Learning (CEL), located in the university's School of Medicine and Dentistry. SWBR served as lead architect on the project. The $1.22 million CEL project includes 12,000 s/f of renovation and is an educational delivery system that supports and connects learning throughout the U of R and the University of Rochester Medical Center campuses. Building on the foundations of the Office of Educational Resources and the Office of Continuing Professional Education, the CEL provides enhanced educational services, such as curriculum design, assessment, educational research and faculty development. The center now includes four new state-of-the-art classrooms that have the flexibility to open into two large classrooms, and two adjacent workrooms for student education sessions. "We are honored to be part of University of Rochester's Center for Experiential Learning team," said Jen LaChance, project manager of SWBR Architects. "The center is complete with hands-on learning opportunities, the use of high-quality technology and a space for collaborative learning." SWBR handled all architectural, structural and interior design of the project. The firm is responsible for the design of classrooms and workrooms, along with the coordination of audio-visual and mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering. Classes began in the center on Nov. 1.
