Spotlights
According to Norman Rijo, president, NCI Construction, Inc. has been acting as general contractor for two new XpresSpa "Premium Class" spas at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). NCI has supervised each project throughout construction. One of the spas is a renovation and expansion of an existing location while the other is new construction. Both XpresSpas are located in Terminal 4 at JFK.
Commercial construction in high traffic airport
NCI has experienced several challenges as both projects demand a rapid turnaround, coordination of materials in high pedestrian traffic, security constraints and the integration of the facilities' high end finishes within the existing systems of the airport terminal building. One major project challenge was coordinating the simultaneous construction of both projects within the same terminal during consistently high airport traffic. NCI team members have worked vigorously to coordinate the logistics for each location's development and have successfully kept the projects on schedule.
Due to the firm's exceptional work at JFK, NCI has also recently been awarded the project of constructing another XpresSpa location at Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts. The addition of these spas will allow for the New York-based XpresSpa to continue its global expansion within international airports, as the company continues to tend the needs of travellers all over the world.
