YogaWorks, the industry leader in yoga practice and mindful fitness has begun construction on its first location in the city. The brand-new studio will be situated in the burgeoning area where historic Brooklyn Heights meets the hustle and bustle of Downtown. The 5,800 s/f space will be part of an exciting new development helmed the Brooklyn Heights Plaza, located at 210 Joralemen Street, and boasts some impressive neighbors like Sephora and It's Sugar. The new YogaWorks is being touted as another great addition to a neighborhood that has seen so many positive changes, and truly is an ideal extension to the exciting new retail and residential growth in the area. This Brooklyn Heights location is set to open the spring of 2014, marking the 28th location for YogaWorks' growing portfolio, and the first to open in NYC since the flagship Soho location opened in 2009.
YogaWorks Brooklyn Heights will feature two large, lofty studios with 13 ft. ceilings and offer the full breadth of traditional yoga classes the brand has become known for. One of the studios will also feature a specially designed Iyengar yoga wall, and the location will also offer sculpting classes and TRX® training on their regular schedule. The space will include spa-like locker rooms complete with showers and towel service, and a lifestyle boutique and tea bar.
The style of the studio will reflect the cultural sensibility of the area, mixing classic architecture, a modern design aesthetic and an emphasis on natural materials. YogaWorks Brooklyn Heights will incorporate green building techniques to make the brand's first Brooklyn outpost an environmentally sound and sustainable addition to the neighborhood, featuring energy efficient LED lighting, FSC certified bamboo flooring and low VOC paint.
"Getting the opportunity to be a part of the newly constructed Brooklyn Heights Plaza is such an incredible opportunity for our brand," said Phil Swain, chief executive officer, YogaWorks. "We worked particularly hard with our longtime collaborators at Winick Realty Group, Lori Shabtai and Monica Kass, to make this location happen because we all believed it was a perfect complement to the area and to our growing portfolio."
