Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County is holding its major fundraising event, The Second Annual Good Earth Gala on Friday, May 2 at 7 p.m. The Good Earth Gala—A Benefit to Celebrate Vibrant Communities, Healthy Families and a Clean Environment will be held at the historic Bourne Mansion on the Great South Bay in Oakdale. This year we are honoring Paul Elliott of Prudential CRES Commercial Real Estate, Charles and Ursula Massoud of Paumanok Vineyards and Michael and Judy White of the Long Island Regional Planning Board and CJ2 Communications Strategies, respectively.  All are exemplars of the award they will receive, Stewards of the Good Earth. Our leadership to date includes co-chairs Barry Cohen, partner, Certilman Balin Adler and Hyman LLP; Flora Garsten, Apple Honda; and Carol Ann Hochbrueckner. Honorary chairs are Hon. Steve Levy, Isabella Rossellini and Marguerite Smith, Esq. The master of ceremonies is Doug Geed, News12 Long Island. The evening will feature fine dining, including the foods and wines of Long Island, a 100-item silent auction including gift certificates to Cornell's summer camps, dinners at Long Island restaurants, perennial displays from local garden centers, and raffles. Last year's honorees were Isabella Rossellini, Jim and Mark Miller of Miller Environmental Group and David and Steve Mudd of Mudd Vineyards, the first recipients of Cornell Cooperative Extension's "Stewards of the Good Earth" award. Cornell Cooperative Extension, a non-profit educational agency affiliated with Cornell University, has been helping Suffolk County residents for more than 90 years with educational programs for families, schools, local businesses and industries. Originally founded in 1917 to aid farm production, CCE has expanded to provide information, research and services on nutrition, our environment, weight management, youth development, parenting, diabetes management, agriculture, summer camp opportunities, 4-H activities, home gardens, protecting our waters, farm experiences, and much more.
