The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) chapter #26 will hold the following upcoming fall courses and events:
* September 25th: "State of the NYC Investment Real Estate Market" luncheon at the Union League Club, 38 East 27th St. from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event will feature keynote speaker: James Nelson, partner, Massey Knakal Realty Services.
* November 13th: "Disaster Boot Camp" luncheon at the Union League Club, 38 East 27th St. from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Be prepared for the next natural disaster or other disruptive events. This panel discussion included experts from insurance, engineering, mechanical & property management firms.
* October 22nd: "Ethics for the Real Estate Manager" to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1619 Third Ave. Addressing ethical dilemmas commonly faced by today's real estate managers, this DVD-based course teaches strategies for resolving ethical dilemmas and adherence to the IREM Code of Professional Ethics, culminating in an exam to earn IREM credentialing credit. You will learn: Applications to real world situations, ethical duties to clients, tenants/residents, employers, and colleagues; ethical decision making - ethical vs. unethical business practices, tactics for resolving ethical dilemmas, scenarios with ethical implications; conflict of interest - fiduciary relationships, conflict of interest scenarios; detailed case study - enforcement of the IREM Code of Professional Ethics, the role of the IREM; and Ethics and Discipline Committee, review of actual ethics cases and their implications. Benefits include: Conducting business using the highest standards of integrity and professionalism and resolving conflicts efficiently and ethically. This course is approved in NYS for five continuing education credit hours. Member rate: $185. Non-member rate: $230.
* November 11 - 13 and 18 - 20: "Successful Site Management" from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1751 Second Ave. Immerse yourself in this course covering residential site management from A to Z, including enhanced content to address the unique needs of affordable housing and student housing. You will learn: Human resource and relationship management, management styles, intergenerational dynamics, employee motivation, recruiting and hiring, employment laws, communication, performance evaluations, fostering productive relationships with conventional owners, affordable housing ownership entities and regulatory bodies, student housing owners, students, parents, and university staff, legal issues and risk management strategies, insurance, security and emergency procedures, landlord-tenant laws, lease-term provisions, unique leases and addendums for affordable housing programs, strategies for addressing student housing leases,
on-site maintenance management, maintenance systems, working with contractors, inspections (including additional regulatory inspections required for affordable housing), service requests, energy and water conservation strategies, environmental hazard procedures, managing "The Turn" for student housing, property financial management, and accounting, budgeting, operating expenses, capital expenses, financial reports.
