SCG Retail has arranged a 1,500 s/f lease at 241 Bleecker Street between 6th and 7th Avenue, for Carre D'artistes, a French contemporary art gallery. The 12-year lease was signed last week and the gallery intends to open in late Spring. The space comes with seventeen feet of frontage and previously it was occupied by a deli. Bertrand de Soultrait, the SCG Retail broker who represented the tenant, said, "This is the perfect neighborhood for a contemporary art gallery with high-quality art priced in the $400-600 range." De Soultrait connected with the gallery while at MAPIC last November, Europe's main retail real estate conference held each year in Cannes. "I'm back and forth to Europe often," said de Soultrait, "but MAPIC allows me to meet a number of retailers and brands that I may not know. When I meet the executives from Carre D'artistes, I knew they would be perfect for New York." Carre D'artistes contemporary art gallery has set out to revolutionize the art sales world by offering one affordable price for all paintings in the gallery. They curate original artists from around the world and rotate their collection through their galleries in key global cities like Paris, London and Barcelona. To date they have eighteen gal-leries and this will be Carre D'artistes first here in the United States. SCG Retail rep-resents them exclusively across the country. This is de Soultrait and SCG Retail's third Bleecker Street deal in six months. Last year deals were completed for Jeremy Argyle at 321 Bleecker and Saint James at 319 Bleecker. "This area has become quite fashionable," said de Soultrait, "and yet this part of Bleecker still has reasonable rents relative to other streets in the Village." The landlord was Peter Longo and Robert Nicomini and they were represented by Massey Knakal.
