ACEC New York awards 18 scholarships to NYS schools' engineering students; Budrow of Clarkson University receives ACEC Merit award

May 13, 2013 - Construction Design & Engineering
Eighteen engineering students attending colleges and universities in NYS will receive $47,500 collectively in scholarship money from member firms of the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC N.Y.) Individual awards range from $2,500 to $5,000, and are given based on the students' cumulative grade-point average, college activities, work experience and essays on consulting engineering. Since the program's inception in 2002, ACEC N.Y. has awarded 166 scholarships totaling $448,000. Students in metropolitan-area colleges will be honored at ACEC N.Y.'s membership luncheon on May 21st at the Union League Club. Students attending upstate colleges will be recognized at the council's winter conference in Albany on January 26th, 2014. One of the students, Christopher Budrow, was honored with the ACEC New York Merit Scholarship, given in recognition of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (MTA) and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP), at the council's annual Engineering Awards gala at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel in April. The $5,000 scholarship, the highest granted, is given annually by ACEC N.Y. in the name of a public agency for its achievements. This year's award recognizes both the MTA and NYC DEP for their extraordinary and expedient response following Superstorm Sandy, helping to restore New York and get the city up and running within days of the massive weather event. Jay Simson, president of ACEC N.Y., said, "We honor these students, not only for their academic excellence, but for their commitment to making our world a better place for generations to come. The future of the engineering profession is safe in the hands of such informed, well-rounded and diligent young people."
