E-J Electric Installation Co. has been contracted to perform the electrical installations for one of the first high-rise data centers in the city. The Sabey Data Center will be located at 375 Pearl St., a 1.15 million s/f office building on the East Side. The 32-story building was originally developed in 1975 for Verizon as a telecom switching hub.
Working under general contractor Sabey Construction, E-J Electric's team is providing electrical installations for the project including lighting fixtures, branch lighting, mechanical branch power and feeder panels. As part of their services, E-J Electric will also replace existing power panels and furnish and install communication conduits to connect two main points of entry to the center's Meet Me Room. Sabey is in the process of upgrading the property with all new core infrastructure and has a goal of increasing the building's power capacity from the current 18 megawatts to 40 megawatts.
Under a separate contract, E-J will also take the lead in the installation of the data center's electrical power monitoring system (EPMS). This system is critical support for the consistent and efficient distribution of electricity to the facility.
Seattle-based developer Sabey Data Center Properties entered the New York data center market by acquiring the majority interest in 375 Pearl St. The former Verizon building will be managed by Sabey and called Intergate. Manhattan. The building's current tenants include Microsoft Corporation, JP Morgan Chase, Savvis, Internap, VMware and T-Mobile.
