Goldberg & Connolly presented a program entitled "Increased Construction Compliance & Integrity Investigations: Tools for Dealing with the New Reality." The event took place on March 28th, at Landmarc at the Time Warner Center. Goldberg & Connolly partner Erik Ortmann and associate Christopher Smith discussed the current environment of increased scrutiny in matters surrounding compliance and business ethics. Program topics included strategies for starting a baseline business ethics program; M/W/DBE compliance issues and consequences; and key areas of compliance, such as false claims, bribes, kickbacks and gratuities, labor issues, and the procurement lobbying law. Attendees learned about their responsibilities and obligations in regards to compliance, as well as the penalties for failing to meet them. The session also provided comprehensive coverage of compliance topics particularly relevant to the construction industry, as well as strategies to foster a company culture of integrity, which will help construction managers mitigate their exposure to legal risks.
