The Avenue of the Americas Association is accepting applications for the fourth year of its Environmental Recognition Program, the Green Street Awards. The nomination period will run through Friday, July 19.
The Green Street Awards recognize members of the Association and other owners and tenants of buildings along the Avenue of the Americas for adopting environmentally sustainable programs and improvements in the workplace. The awards aim to promote corporate social responsibility in the real estate industry by inspiring members and neighbors to collaboratively take action, and develop their own sustainability plans.
There are two categories in which a building or tenant can be nominated: Certification and Achievement, or Energy Efficiency and Sustainability.
Projects that have been completed and certifications that have been received between January 1, 2012 and June 20, 2013 are eligible for entry. The categories are further subdivided into four levels: buildings over 1,000,000 square feet, buildings under 1,000,000 square feet, tenant office space and retail space.
The certification and achievement category honors those who have received certifications through government or commercial real estate organizations relating to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency programs. Examples include, LEED certification at any level or an Energy Star label of 75 points or greater. The energy efficiency and sustainability award recognizes a building or tenant who adopts or develops energy efficient systems that reduce emissions or energy use. A variety of programs such as HVAC retrofits, water reduction, window film replacement and energy curtailment fall in this category.
Award recipients will be selected by a committee of industry professionals assembled by the Association Board of Directors and honored alongside all nominees at the Association's annual gala on October 30, 2013.
