Long Island Real Estate Group elects three to executive board

Three real estate industry professionals have been elected to the executive board of the Long Island Real Estate Group (LIREG), Long Island's largest real estate organization. Ted Weiss, chief executive officer of T. Weiss Realty Corp., a real estate development, ownership and management firm based in Melville. Weiss founded the company in 1969, and has since concentrated on the conversion of light industrial properties into class A office space across Long island. Over the years, he has overseen the development, leasing and management of more than 1 million square feet of commercial property throughout Long Island. Weiss also established TOTUS Office Solutions and Conference and Meeting Centers of Long Island, both of which he still serves as president. Weiss is also a member of the Long Island Association (LIA), Huntington Chamber of Commerce, Melville Chamber of Commerce, National Association of Commercial Real Estate, and the Commercial Industrial Brokers Society (CIBS). He has worked closely with officials in the Town of Huntington, to achieve a Master Plan for the betterment of the Melville Route 110 corridor. He has worked with, and contributed to such charities as Toys of Hope, the Make-A-Wish-Foundation, and the Nature Conservancy. He has served on the boards of the Family Service League and the Huntington Holiday House and has been honored by the March of Dimes, the Family Service League, the Nature Conservancy and the Gurwin Healthcare Foundation. He was a finalist in 2002 in Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year award. A graduate of Southern Connecticut State University where he was a four-year letter winner in men's swimming and earned a BS degree. He is a New York State licensed real Estate broker and also a U.S. Coast Guard licensed passenger vessel captain. He resides in Lloyd Harbor with his wife, Pamela. They have two grown children. James Ashley (AJ) Johnston, since 2009, director of real estate at the King Kullen Grocery Co., Westbury, where he is responsible for research and strategic real estate planning, underwriting, and due diligence efforts, with primary responsibility for the asset management of King Kullen's stores. His other responsibilities include the disposition of real estate, financing, leasing, construction, and maintenance. Prior to joining King Kullen, Johnston was development associate at Blumenfeld Development Group, and worked as a real estate manager at Sunrise Senior Living and an acquisition analyst for Pulte Homes He has a BA in history and economics from Boston College and received an MBA in international management and finance from Fordham University. Johnston, who has played a prominent role in LIREG's New Gen division, also is an associate board member of The Association For a Better Long Island and a board member of the Family Service League. He resides in Huntington with his wife, Allison, and their daughter, Willow Rose. Lee Passavia, founder and principal of Domus Group, a development firm in Stony Brook. Founded in 2009, the firm's projects include Canoe Place Landing in Hampton Bays and the Hedges at Old Field in Setauket. Previously, he was associated with Passbro LLC and Woodbury Realty Holdings Corp., where he was involved in site acquisition, project management, design and implementation. He also was a producer at R/GA, an interactive digital advertising agency. He received a BA in 1997 from Yale University, where he studied art and architecture and was a forward on the Bulldogs men's soccer team. A native of Stony Brook, he now resides in Melville with his wife, Tara, daughter Sofia, and son, Luca. He is a member of the Yale Alumni Real Estate Association, National Association of Home Builders and the Long Island Builders Institute. He is secretary of LIBI's Green Homes Council. Since its founding, LIREG has contributed more than $670,000 to numerous real estate-related projects undertaken by charities on Long Island, including contributions to Angela's House, Camp Anchor, Children's Medical Fund of New York, Family Service League, Fitzgerald House, The Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, Haven House/Bridges Inc., Hospice Care Network, Katz Women's Hospital, Let the Children Play, Long Beach Relief Fund, Long Island Alzheimer's Foundation, the Long Island Holocaust Memorial, North Shore Holiday House, Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center, St. Francis Hospital and Sunrise Day Camp.
