Schroder & Strom, LLP offers free legal services to those hardest hit by Sandy

The tax certiorari law firm of Schroder & Strom, LLP is offering free legal assistance to the area's homeowners hardest hit by Sandy. As a service to the Long Island community, Schroder & Strom, will represent a limited number of owners with severe damage to their homes in real property tax appeals on a pro bono basis waiving standard legal fees. Partners Michael Schroder and Karen Strom met with the firm's team of attorneys last week to plan a strategy to assist clients in lowering their real estate taxes as a result of Sandy's destruction. They also discussed how they could help homeowners with significant property damage who do not have tax appeals underway and need guidance to start an appeal. As a result of that meeting, the firm's attorneys enthusiastically agreed to devote time in helping the public most impacted by the storm. The firm's offer will be considered for owners of homes substantially destroyed by the storm or whose homes are completely uninhabitable if still standing by January 1, 2013, the date Nassau County assesses real estate. The firm will also provide assistance for all affected by Sandy, by helping the public understand the rights and remedies to seek lower real estate taxes in the coming year which reflect the damage to their homes. A newsletter has been prepared outlining the tax process and special requirements that homeowners will need to follow in order to establish their claims.
