Automatic Systems SmartLane runs for 10 million cycles
September 10, 2012 - Construction Design & Engineering
According to Automatic Systems, a leading manufacturer of pedestrian security entrance control and vehicle gates and barriers, their SmartLane optical portals have passed 10 million cycles in use at their North American production facility.
Beginning on May 3rd, 2010, a set of Smartlane SL90X/91X portals (one standard lane, one ADA width lane) with 67" high barrier glass were set to run continuously, to allow for the company's engineering team to evaluate wear patterns and set maintenance standards for their installed product base. Those two lanes passed 10 million cycles of operation this August. Except for a minor design change early in the test period, no parts replacements were needed during the more than two-year continuous run. Some periodic lubrication was performed at every million cycles. In perspective, a typical client's installed unit would run for nearly 20 years to reach 10 million cycles (at 2,000 passages per workday).
"This milestone clearly establishes SmartLane as a commanding leader in the entrance control market," said David Enderle, VP sales at Automatic Systems. "Clients and their security designers are increasingly focused on total cost of ownership when shopping for security lanes and portals. SmartLane, like our full range of pedestrian and vehicle access control products, are designed and built for consistent, reliable, secure operation over the long term. We know of no other manufacturer who can make this claim and back it up with empirical test results."
About SmartLane
The SmartLane by Automatic Systems provides the highest level of optimization between throughput and security combined with enhanced user ergonomics, improved user safety, all while identifying fraud attempts and eliminating tailgating. It combines high throughput (more than 60 passages per minute) with a high performance detection system, streamlined design and IP connectivity for remote configuration, maintenance, and lane management. In addition to being subjected to a quite rigorous quality control process, the SmartLane is further certified to UL 325 standards.
