Meet the BMAR Member - Silberman

Scott Silberman, P.E. serves as president and owner of SMS Engineering, P.C. which was founded in 1999. SMS Engineering is an interdisciplinary firm specializing in a comprehensive array of civil and structural engineering related services. For the real estate industry specifically, SMS Engineering performs Local Law 11/98 façade inspections, structural engineering, building evaluations, peer reviews, owner's representative work, window cleaning equipment inspections & design and various other consulting services. In addition to those services listed above, SMS Engineering currently has projects in place on every major bridge in N.Y.C. including the Throgs Neck Bridge, Whitestone Bridge, George Washington Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge, Henry Hudson Bridge and Verrazano Narrows Bridge. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1990 with a bachelor of science degree in Civil Engineering. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in NYS as well as 10 other states. Upon graduation, Silberman worked for Vollmer Associates, a large transportation engineering consulting firm where he was involved in bridge inspections and design as well as the design of several transit facilities including the Botanical Gardens station for Metro North and the Union Sq. Station for New York City Transit as well as several N.J. Transit stations. After Vollmer, and prior to starting SMS Engineering, he worked for L&L Painting Co., and oversaw numerous commercial painting projects that were valued up to $80 million per project. Currently, Silberman is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, Steel Society of Protective Coatings, American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) Committee E30 on Forensic Sciences (Engineering), American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) Committee F13 on Pedestrian/ Walkway Safety and Footwear, Chairman of the Containment and Platform Design Committee, The Masonry Society, Structural Engineers Association of New York, American Society of Safety Engineers and International Code Council. Silberman has been married to his wife Kim since 2004. They reside in Holmdel, N.J. with their children, Max and Kyle.
