Besen Retail has completed the final lease signing of 523 Amsterdam Ave. on the Upper West Side. This completes their assignment to fill four adjacent spaces that span from 521-527 Amsterdam Ave., which is located between West 85th and West 86th Sts. The total time frame is just under a year, with the first lease signing in the summer of 2011 and the last lease signing this spring.
"All four of these tenants have been on the Upper West Side for many years. They are very happy to now have their stores on Amsterdam Ave. and look forward to many years of doing business in a community setting with small shops," said Elliott Dweck, senior retail specialist at Besen Retail. The four tenants will occupy a total of 2,005 s/f. The leases include: Kitchen Factory, a 435 s/f design showroom for kitchens and baths; Tasti-D-Lite, 370 s/f frozen yogurt shop; Little Creatures Pet Store, a 700 s/f pet supply store; and Down & Quilt Shop, a 500 s/f local shop for quilts, blankets, sheets, rugs, and pillows. Dweck and Matthew Mager of Besen Retail represented the landlord. The Down & Quilt Shop had been located at 518 Columbus Ave. for nearly three decades, and signed a 10-year deal at 527 Amsterdam Ave. Asking rent was $150 a s/f.
Besen & Associates had previously sold the building in 2011 for $13 million from Touro College to its present owner, a local private investor.
