Taco Del Mar opens

June 25, 2012 - Brokerage
The father and son owners of the Subway on the corner of Washington Ave. and Lark St. downtown, Mitch and Adam Gelman, have opened one of the first area Taco Del Mar stores on the corner of Washington Ave.and Lark St. Originally started in Seattle, Wash., the franchise business offers a quick-service Mexican menu featuring Baja beach-style burritos and fish tacos, as well as gluten-free and vegetarian options. The grand opening was held recently and offered specials to customers. "My father and I believe in Albany and wanted to be the first to bring the Taco Del Mar franchise to the region - but it was important for us to do it right and make a memorable impression. When we celebrated our grand opening of Subway last fall, we made a commitment to the city of Albany and mayor Jennings that we would continue to invest and add new jobs in our community. Today we made good on that promise and we are proud to celebrate a vital new business and new jobs in the district" said Adam Gelman, "We renovated the interior space with the idea to blend the franchise design with a cafe style layout but one that also complemented the surrounding neighborhood." The opening of Taco Del Mar represents the completion of the revival of a formerly vacant storefront that serves as a gateway to Lark Street and the surrounding residential neighborhoods. The location had been vacant for more than a year.
