Name: Andrea Lawrence Title: Partner Company/firm: Leclair Ryan Years with company/firm: < 1 Years in field: 18 Years in real estate industry: 16 Address: 830 Third Avenue, New York, New York 10022 Telephone: 212-446-5004 Email: [email protected] URL: leclairryan.com Real estate organizations/affiliations: REIN NY LLC During the last 10 years of your career, which professional accomplishment, honor or achievement was most meaningful to you and why? One of my most meaningful cases arose from my legal representation of a group of tenants (mostly artists) living in a rent stabilized building in New York City. Each tenant had been served with eviction papers, and were scared that they would soon find themselves homeless after decades in the same building. We were able to resolve this case, without litigation, so that each tenant received a settlement that provided a nice financial cushion. I still keep in touch with these tenants, and consider them not only clients, but friends. How do you contribute to your company and / or the industry? Although I work in a large law firm, there are not many attorneys who specialize primarily in commercial real estate litigation. Thus, I bring my real estate expertise to my firm, which allows us to offer additional services to clients in this exciting industry. What advice would you give to women just starting out in commercial real estate? I think that a career in commercial real estate offers many opportunities for women, as it remains an industry predominately governed by men. An industrious woman has the chance to go quite far in this industry, often through networking advantages not available to her male counterparts. Thus, I would encourage women just starting out in this industry to stick with it, as I believe the sky is the limit. How do you manage the work/life balance? As a mother of an eleven year old daughter, I try hard to leave the office at a reasonable hour each evening (no easy task for an attorney). If I have work to do, I bring it home and do it later in the evening, after my daughter goes to sleep. I think it is important not to let a busy work schedule interfere with one's family life. Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career and why? Definitely my mother, who has been working tirelessly in education since the time that I was born. She has been a positive influence on my work ethic, and shows by example that it is possible to balance a rewarding career with a successful home life. How are you using social media to promote yourself, your products and / or your firm? I often rely upon the social media to promote both myself and my law firm, Leclair Ryan . Typically, on a monthly basis, I try to write an article on an issue that is relevant to the real estate industry and raises interesting legal issues. Upon publication, I circulate my articles to clients via linked in, twitter or through another electronic medium. The feedback that I receive is always favorable. Where would you like to be 10 years from today? Retired and living on a remote Carribean island.
