According to Michael Dennis, chairman of the Saratoga Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Dennis Brobston has been appointed president of the non-profit corporation which is responsible for creating jobs in Saratoga County. Brobston was chosen after a statewide and national search utilizing both state and national economic development associations. He will begin his official duties in early March. He served as VP of community development at SEDC for eight of the years he served at SEDC between 1997 and 2005. His responsibilities included: oversight of prospect development, small business development, and project applications to five industrial agencies in Saratoga County. Dennis said that Brobston's knowledge of the area, experience with successful locations of new employers in the county, and relationships with state and local officials and agencies will speed up the transition process at the non-profit organization. Brobston has been serving as the executive director of the Wesley Foundation since his departure from SEDC in 2005. During his tenure at Wesley the foundation's assets grew by over 600%. He arrived in Saratoga County in 1986 as the northeast sales manager for Fort Steuben Products, producers of storage and warehousing products. In 1995 and 1996 he held an economic development position with the Southern Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce before being recruited by SEDC. Saratoga County contracts with SEDC to operate a program for the expansion of existing employers and attraction of new employers. The private non-profit corporation has been directly responsible for the location of State Farm Insurance, Quad Graphics, Ball Metal Container, Ace Hardware Distribution Center and Target Distribution.
