Design / Build
According to AKF, two of their partners, Chris McHugh, PE, and Frank Lorenz, PE, have been invited by Russell Unger, executive director of the Urban Green Council of the USGBC/N.Y. chapter, to serve on the NYC Building Resiliency Task Force.
The Task Force, convened at the request of mayor Michael Bloomberg and city council speaker Christine Quinn, is charged with reviewing current building codes and operational practices and making recommendations for amending these to improve building resiliency and to facilitate recovery from coastal storms, extreme temperatures, floods, windstorms/tornadoes, winter storms, and earthquakes.
Both partners will serve on the critical buildings committee. In addition, McHugh will participate in the HVACR, plumbing, and fire protection working group and Lorenz will participate in the electrical and IT working group. The recommendations of the Task Force will be released by this summer.
AKF has pioneered many of the innovations that improve the resiliency, safety, sustainability, and energy efficiency of the city's critical facilities; and we have been engaged in the wake of Superstorm Sandy to help a number of the city's important institutions and buildings recover, restore, and upgrade. We look forward with great enthusiasm to this new challenge and to the opportunity to share our experience and expertise widely with our professional colleagues and the city's leadership.
