Douglas Atkins, Esq. of Forchelli, Curto, Deegan, Schwartz, Mineo, Cohn & Terrana, LLP (the Firm) has been named to the New York Rising Stars as one of the top attorneys in New York for 2011. SuperLawyers, a Thomson Reuters business, is a rating service of outstanding lawyers who have attained a degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The annual selections are made using a rigorous multi-phased process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates, and a peer review by practice area. Atkins concentrates his practice in the areas of tax certiorari, real estate and condemnation. He has experience in tax reduction proceedings for all types of commercial real estate throughout Long Island's counties, towns and villages. Atkins also has obtained substantial tax refunds for owners of specialty properties such as cellular phone tower sites, sand processing plants and tidal wetlands. Atkins is admitted to the bars of New York and Connecticut. He is a member of the Nassau and Suffolk County Bar Associations, where he serves on the Tax Certiorari and Condemnation Law Committee for each. He is also an active member of the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce. He is a frequent lecturer and writer on the topics of commercial property tax and valuation. He has been published in the New York Real Estate Journal, the New York Law Journal, the Suffolk County Lawyer and various other local publications. For his accomplishments and achievements in the business community, Doug was selected as one of Long Island's outstanding young risers by the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce. The award is presented to Long Island's top 30 professionals under the age of 30.
