Spellman of Heidi Spellman Realty, LLC discusses how she got her start
January 14, 2008 - Long Island
How did you get your start?
Heidi Spellman, a native to the North Shore by three generations, was born and raised in Manhasset. Her agency is located in Port Washington, but her sphere runs well beyond the boundaries of the North Shore. Her real estate career began in 1986, shortly before the last housing market became soft, since she was determined to continue earning an income she transferred her focus to retail leasing, which dramatically enhanced her career. Spellman took every vacant storefront in her marketplace, and went into Queens. Her mission was to secure prospects for those same storefronts. She solicited these empty storefronts as a great place for those prospects to bring their businesses. Spellman achieved great success in these endeavors.
Several years later, as an agent with Coldwell Banker, they introduced their startup for a commercial division, Spellman joined. Eager as always to enhance her education and understanding of commercial real estate, in order to expand her horizons as a realtor. The instructor and his training were a great launching pad for Spellman as she continued to evolve in the commercial real estate arena.
Commercial real estate is entirely different from residential real estate. Spellman does not suggest that any realtor who has been engaged solely in residential real estate transactions enter commercial real estate, without proper training. There is an enormous amount of terminology and technical math involved, as the commercial buyer is interested only in numbers, whereas residential usually has a high emotional factor.
Spellman is a member of the Long Island Commercial Network and the New York State Commercial Association of Realtors. Dedicated to professionalism and service, she works as both a seller and buyers' broker.
