Jennifer Carey, founder and president of JLC Environmental Consultants has been elected 2011-12 president of the Association of Real Estate Women (AREW). Carey previously served as 2010-11 AREW VP and on the board of directors.
Other officers elected for the 2011-12 term are VP Lina Telese, Zetlin & DeChiara; secretary Julia Glazer, Teknion; treasurer Rochelle Crespi, Guardhill Financial; and member-at-large Gail Goldberg, Launch Solutions. Immediate past president, Debra Cole, Perkins + Will, will also serve as an officer.
Founded in 1987, JLC Environmental Consultants has been named one of the top 100 women-owned businesses in the state. The JLC team has worked on more than 18,000 real estate related projects providing services that include LEED EQ pre, during and post construction testing and consulting; phase I,II and III environmental site assessments, asbestos and lead paint management, building constituents analysis, and employee safety (OSHA) training services.
Current JLC projects include Madison Yards' underground 42nd-54th St. transportation hub for the Dragados/Judlau joint venture with the MTA; the Second Ave. Subway line; air quality consulting for the New York City Board of Education; and consulting for Federated Department Stores at various regional locations.
Carey previously served on the board of the Ewing Marion Kaufmann Foundation, Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership; was a board member and president of the NYC Chapter of the Entrepreneur's Organization (EO); was selected as a CORO Foundation fellow for Leadership NY Class VII; and a White House Conference on Small Business Delegation leader for NYS in 1995. She currently serves on the NYS governor's Small Business Advisory Board.
Founded in 1978, AREW is one of the first associations founded in the U.S. for women real estate professionals, providing excellent educational programming and networking opportunities that contribute to the career growth of its members in all segments and levels of the real estate industry.
