Nadine Cino - SustainAbility: Leveraging influence
July 25, 2011 - Green Buildings
In an historic educational/networking event, two of the most powerful organizations in real estate and facilities management met and discussed how they might work together to achieve a greater level of influence on sustainability issues. Members of CoreNet N.Y.C. Chapter and the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA) N.Y.C. Chapter were provoked by three films on sustainability to improve sustainability within the commercial real estate industry. The films ranged from highlighting issues such as the high percentage of existing buildings which will likely remain functional through 2050, and how to modify/implement effective energy management plans to presenting provocative problem-solving examples from nature, and looking at bio-mimicry as a genuine resource for solutions. The outcome of the discussion led to the creation of a joint task for which will develop goals to guide cooperative efforts towards increased sustainability, and in its formation, is testimony to the power of SustainAbility as an overarching subject to bring such powerful organizations together and leverage influence for the betterment of society.
