Day of H2M obtains professional engineer license

Smita Day, project engineer in the Environmental Services division of H2M architects + engineers has completed the state of New York Professional Engineering Civil Exam and is now a licensed, professional engineer.
When asked how her recent accomplishment will affect her career, Day said, "Obtaining my P.E. License allows me to grow into the next step of my career and it means that the state of New York recognizes that I have the qualifications to be a professional engineer (stamp and seal designs and documents, provide testimony, etc)."
Day has been working at H2M since August 2010. She performs both the management and consulting roles for a number of on-going projects for several Nassau County Municipalities. Her work includes Phase 1 environmental site assessments, subsurface investigations and soil and groundwater remediation.
Day's has experience in regulatory, compliance and historical review; remediation construction oversight; installation and sampling of groundwater monitoring wells, soil, soil vapor and ambient air sampling; health and safety monitoring; evaluation of laboratory analytical data; and preparation of environmental reports. Day is also proficient in the operation of field instrumentation including photo-ionization detectors, water quality meters and peristaltic and submersible pumping systems.
Day has a Masters of Science degree in Geoenvironmental Engineering from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Bioresource Engineering, Rutgers, State University of New Jersey.
She is OSHA certified in Health and Safety Operations at Hazardous Waste Sites and has completed the 10-hour Safety Training NYCDOB.
