The MBI Group is building green
May 23, 2011 - Green Buildings
For years, MBI Group has assisted in the construction of greener, more sustainable, LEED certified buildings, but their journey down the green path began over seven years ago. Back then, the Group served as general contractor for the Con Edison substation at 7 World Trade Center. The building itself eventually became one of the city's first certified high-rise office buildings and received Gold status under the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system.
On the home front, MBI Group has implemented several green initiatives in their office to decrease the company's carbon footprint. From the reduction of energy and water waste to multiple recycling programs, the employees at MBI Group are fully committed to helping the environment. According to a study in the American Journal of Public Health, workers in eco-friendly offices report less absenteeism and greater productivity as opposed to those in conventional offices.
Recently, MBI Group contracted the Document Management Services of Cintas. MBI's daily paper waste from blueprints to financial records and scrap is collected, shredded and processed into post consumer products. MBI Group receives quarterly reports on how much waste has been collected from their office and natural resources saved as a result of the recycling; this information is used to promote further conservation by the company and its employees in their personal lives. Not only is this beneficial to the environment, but also enforces client confidentiality agreements. Other initiatives in the office include:
* Recycling ink cartridges through the manufacturer's recycling programs
* Using remanufactured ink and toners
* Providing water coolers and using glassware made from recycled material versus bottled water .
