City Building Owners launches new program
April 25, 2011 - Green Buildings
The City Building Owners Insurance Program and Stu Cohen are bringing the "Upgrade To Green" program to property owners in Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan.
Building owners, brownstone owners, and co-op and condos can now have an "Upgrade To Green" coverage added to their building insurance policy, that will automatically increase the building coverage by 25% to allow for "green upgrades and replacement" to rebuild after a loss.
Pressure on real estate owners to "go green" continues to rise. Adopting environmentally sustainable building practices and materials can be costly. This coverage eases the financial burden, enabling the building owner to rebuild the insured property with products that embrace sustainability principles and reduce the overall impact of the building on the environment. Coverage is available to both LEED certified and non-LEED certified buildings.
Coverage includes extra money to hire a LEED accredited architect or engineer, coverage to test for and remove air contaminants after reconstruction, coverage to upgrade the areas of energy efficiency including heating systems, water efficiency, indoor air quality, and general sustainability upgrades of flooring and other materials to conforming building materials.
