Kahn Architecture and Design (KAD), a Manhattan-based architecture/design company, appointed Heidi Kahn as the firm's new president and director of design, establishing the midtown firm an officially-designated woman-owned business.
Kahn, the company's former vice president, took over her new job after her husband and partner, Michael Kahn, (AIA, LEED AP) the company's former president, traded roles to be the company's new vice president and director of operations. "We are both very excited by the new opportunities this opens for KAD," said Heidi, (RA).
The Kahns founded the growing midtown Manhattan-based architecture/design company in 2005 that attracts leading commercial real estate companies such as Jones LaSalle, CB Richard Ellis, Shorenstein Properties, Joseph P. Day, and Cushman and Wakefield who hire KAD's team to redesign and reposition office lease space in their real estate properties.
Last year the firm doubled its projects to over 75 and increased revenue by a whopping 100 percent. The Kahn team's focus is in N.Y., N.J., Conn., Westchester, and Washington, D.C.
Morgan Stanley, Crain's New York Business, Sirius XM, Wenner Media, Saks Fifth Avenue, Malcolm Pirnie and Ospraie Management, are just a few of the corporate and retail companies who have turned to KAD for their unique design ideas. Other clients include end-user tenants clients - from the world of finance, media, law, government, health, fashion, healthcare and the non-profit sector. Currently they are designing broadcast studios for one of South America's largest television networks here in the US (RCN Distribution Inc.,) with studios in New York, Miami and Washington, D.C.
"KAD's robust growth has forced us to change roles," said Michael. "As a design firm, Heidi is in the forefront and directly engaged with our clients."
The firm offers a full range of architecture and design services that include: brand and design development, the coordination and selection of all architectural and aesthetic elements including finishes, furniture and lighting, budgeting and space planning, contract documentation, construction administration and audiovisual coordination.
"When we started our company we knew we could offer clients something different, a high level of hands-on ownership involvement on their projects," added Heidi.
Before starting KAD, the Kahns - who each have over 23 years of professional experience, both worked on major design projects for larger companies "We promise every client that they get Michael or me through the entire process at a fair price," said Heidi, who personally oversees all design for the firm's projects, from start to finish - while Michael is responsible for office operations, project management and business development.
"We pride ourselves on creating office environments to reflect a strong vision of a company's unique brand and identity," added Heidi. "The success of our clients built environment to truly reflect who they are as a corporate culture is one of our greatest achievements."
The firm has professional licenses to practice architecture in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Washington, D.C. and is NCARB Certified.
Heidi Kahn received her master's degree in Architecture from Southern California Institute of Architecture and a bachelor's degree from Wellesley in architectural history/theory.
Michael Kahn received his bachelor's degree in Architecture from Pratt Institute. He is a member of the AIA American Institute of Architects and is a LEED AP in Commercial Interiors.
