Long Island
The Long Island Real Estate Group (LIREG) donated $80,000 to four Long Island charities.
LIREG, a networking and philanthropic group composed of executives in the real estate industry and allied trades, donated $20,000 to each of the charities.
"These organizations provide tremendous benefits to our community on Long Island and whatever help we can provide is well deserved," said LIREG president David Einbinder.
"We hope, that in addition to our organization's gifts to these many worthwhile recipients, that our membership becomes familiar with the wonderful work of these charities and inspires additional private and corporate contributions," said Peter Schapero, chairman of LIREG's Charity Committee.
The funds were raised through contributions from LIREG's executive board members and through events run by the organization throughout the past year.
The charities are:
Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club
LIREG's donation will be used to repair and refinish a gymnasium floor badly damaged by a leaky roof that has already been replaced. The Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club is a neighborhood-based facility designed for youth programs and activities. The club serves 600 youth annually through its after-school and summer programs under the supervision of full-time and part time youth development professionals. For more information visit www.glencovebgc.org or call (516) 671-8030.
Long Island Alzheimer's Foundation
LIREG's donation will fund the renovation of five bathrooms at the foundation's Port Washington facility to make them ADA compliant. The foundation provides community-based support services for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and their care giving families throughout Nassau, Suffolk, Brooklyn and Queens with hands-on programs and services that weekly touch more than 530 people directly with client and caregiver support groups, a social model adult day program, cognitive stimulation and socialization programs and in-home respite. The building will house a gym, stage, kitchen and dinning area, computer lab, special needs accessible bathrooms, nurse's station, and several general-purpose rooms.
